Kitchen Garden Hardware

Obelisks, strawberry cages and rose arches in cleft chestnut, made by hand in batches for people who grow.

Not everything we make is a one-off. A good part of the work is the steady, repeat side — the pieces that go out by the dozen to people who grow things for a living and need kit that lasts.

Obelisks are the bread and butter of it: we supply them in quantity to farms and market gardens, all made to the same clean pattern so a row of them looks right stood together. We've built strawberry cages with hinged lids that actually lift for picking — not the sort you have to half-dismantle every time you want the fruit, but a proper hinge that opens, so netting the crop and getting at it are the same easy job. And we've made rose arches for a holiday let, the kind of thing guests walk under without ever wondering who made it.

It's all cleft and round sweet chestnut. Chestnut earns its place here: it's naturally durable, so it needs no treatment, no paint, no annual fuss. Left outside it silvers down to a soft grey over a season or two and settles into the garden as if it had always been there. Cleaving it along the grain rather than sawing keeps the fibres long and the strength in, which is why it stands up to years of weather and handling.

Made in batches, by hand — the same pattern, but none of them stamped out.

Batch work doesn't mean factory work. Each piece is still cut and put together by hand to a pattern we know well, so you get consistency down a whole order without losing the fact that a person made it. That matters to the growers and gardeners who come back for more each season.

If you need garden structures in quantity — or just a couple built to last — we're set up to make them.
